Raw support, image rating system, and more!

Qimage v2007.200 (06/20/07):

ddisoftware is pleased to announce a significant upgrade to our professional photographic printing software in Qimage v2007.200. Our Studio Edition now offers full color managed support for raw photos from more than 250 cameras! With raw support, Studio Edition users will be able to create high quality final prints from raw photos, print contact sheets, preview/rate them, and batch convert to other image formats without having to open, tweak, and save individual photos in raw developing tools. While not intended to replace your favorite raw developing tool, you may find yourself using Qimage to rate, view, and print many raw photos that don't need extensive corrections like exposure correction, fill light, white balance, etc.. With this upgrade, the Pro and Studio Editions also get a handy new image rating system that allows users to quickly rate and sort photos! The rating system comes with added benefits for Studio Edition users who will be able to quickly tag, sort, and move their raw photos, reducing the amount of time spent working images in raw developing tools. And don't worry, if you are interested in raw support and you currently own the Lite or Pro Editions, our trade-up program will allow you to move up to higher editions by just paying the price difference between editions, so you never lose money by having to start over!

New Features:

Raw support: Qimage now supports raw image formats for over 250 cameras in the Studio Edition. While not intended to replace your raw conversion tool of choice, Qimage does offer full color managed support and even offers the ability to use custom profiles by doing nothing more than creating an ICC profile, naming it with your camera model, and dropping the file into the "profiles" folder. With the ability to print contact sheets of your raw images, rate them (see below), and create final prints, you may find yourself using Qimage to process many of your raw images while reserving more powerful developing tools for correcting exposure, rebalancing, etc. only when necessary. Note that the Lite and Pro editions do not support raw image formats, so if you need support for raw image formats, consider a trade-up from Lite or Pro.

New image rating system: Rate all your images with a 1-5 rating quickly and easily, and even sort thumbnails by rating. Image ratings appear on thumbnails so you can quickly move through the images you want. Note that this option is not available in the Lite Edition.

Color management upgrade: The color management engine has been upgraded with a faster, more efficient version.

Printer color management: Convenient new entry in the "Prtr ICC" dropdown to select "Let printer/driver manage color".

Fixes:

Batch filter: Fixed a bug that was causing a crop to appear when using the white balance dropper under certain conditions.

v2007.212	08/21/07	Low	v2007.212 includes the following: Raw support (Studio Edition): Added a new "Extract Embedded Images (raw)" function that can extract embedded images such as JPEG images from raw files. Simply add some raw files to the queue and then right click in the queue and select "Extract Embedded Images (raw)". Most cameras store JPEG images inside raw files so this function can be useful when shooting in raw-only format to extract a JPEG that shows how the camera would have processed the image. While some cameras only embed smaller (1/4 resolution) images, for cameras like the Sigma SD14 that store a full resolution "Fine" JPEG's in each raw file, being able to extract the full size JPEG from the raw file means you can do the equivalent of "raw+jpeg" even on cameras that don't offer that shooting option! In these cases, you can tell Qimage to extract the JPEG's from the raw files and you'll only need to develop the raw files that need extra tweaking. It's truly the best of both worlds! Vista skins improved: Improved the Vista skins so that the main window bar supports translucency on machines running the Vista OS. Note: If you are a registered user and you are running v2007.172 or older, you will need a download password (for the registered version) and new unlock code! You may request the download password and updated unlock information using this simple form. The new unlock codes and added security measures are necessary to protect us and our customers from piracy, adware, and spyware.

Input color table override: Added the ability to override image/camera profiles by entering an "O" in the "Enabled" column in the input table under "Edit", "Preferences", "Color Management". An "O" will override even embedded profiles. This feature is currently undocumented but will be documented in a future release/help file.

Qimage Version 2007.160 News

Qimage v2007.160 (02/21/07):

New Features:

Vista compatible help: New HTML based help is not only compatible with Windows Vista, but is also available any time you need it by just pressing F1. The F1 help key is now supported on all Qimage windows and selectable controls. Selecting a control such as an edit box, check box, radio button, or dropdown anywhere in Qimage and pressing F1 will immediately take you to the most pertinent section of the program help!

We're on a new server: ddisoftware.com has been moved to a much more powerful web server with many times more bandwidth than the old server, which means faster web browsing here at ddisoftware.com and much faster downloads of new versions! New download logic from the "Help", "About" window in Qimage v2007.160 also ensures faster and more reliable upgrading from within Qimage.

Fixes:

Disappearing jobs: Fixed an issue where saved print jobs were being deleted if users started the job file name with a number instead of a letter.

Image info: Corrected the file name displayed on the "Image Info" window so that long file names no longer overwrite other information on the window.

Queue/page operations (adding, deleting images, resizing, etc.) are now much faster when working with slow responding print drivers (such as some Vista printer drivers). Improved the "Interp." dropdown so that changing the setting from "OFF" to any interpolator automatically restores default print/poster resolution settings. Fixed a bug that was causing floating text to not be replicated properly when selecting one of the "link to all prints" options.

Note that a bug in Windows Vista x64 prevents the \windows\system32\spool folder and all subfolders from appearing in the folder/directory tree in any application other than Windows Explorer. Note that Windows x86 (32 bit version) does not suffer from this problem. While Vista x64 prevents the \windows\system32\spool\drivers\color folder from appearing in the folder tree at the top of Qimage's ICC profile selection dialog, you can still access your profiles in that folder by simply clicking the "All Windows Profiles" button on the Qimage ICC profile selection dialog until Microsoft fixes this problem with Vista x64.

New Features:

Brand new user interface (UI): To say we completely redesigned the interface is an understatement! You simply have to use Qimage 2007 to grasp the changes we have made. Beautiful new "skins" are used for all windows, new easier to use controls are in place including "hot panels" that can open/close as you move over them, and in a form-meets-function fashion, we've reduced clutter while at the same time increasing functionality.

Shutdown fix: Fixed a problem that was causing Qimage to remain on the process list in rare occasions after being shut down properly.
