Qimage v2009.250 (05/08/09):

ddisoftware, Inc. is pleased to announce Qimage 2009.250, our professional photographic printing software for PC/Windows.  This major revision offers a number of minor UI tweaks and some bold new features that make optimal quality photo printing even easier.  Behind-the-scenes tweaks include a new installer that allows users to install both program files and application data in user-selectable folders, automatic checks to ensure that saved printer setups are compatible with updated print drivers, and other time saving enhancements.  New features include a "menu cheater" that allows direct access to dozens of commonly used functions that previously required drilling down into menus, and powerful new photo album functionality for the Studio Edition that allows users to organize photos into user defined photo albums.  Unlike other photo applications that force users to create albums in order to work with photos, Qimage Studio Edition allows users to choose their own workflow.  You can work with photos in your existing folders or you can create albums to organize photos across multiple folders.  The choice is yours.

v2009.267 07/16/09 Low v2009.267 improves raw support for the Panasonic GH1 by automatically correcting barrel distortion at wide angles when using the 14-140 kit lens.  v2009.267 also corrects a bug that was causing the bottom row of thumbnails to not update properly after a thumbnail rebuild under certain conditions.

  • Full page editor: Added a right click/menu item and shortcut (Ctrl-O) that toggles the printed page orientation between portrait and landscape.
  • Batch filter: Auto preview window now docks to the right instead of the middle of the screen in order to show more of the main image without blocking controls.
  • Cutouts: Fixed a problem related to applying cutouts/frames to photos that also have a rotation filter.
  • Folder browser: Improved the folder browser context menu so that folders can be deleted or renamed without producing error messages.
  • Save/Recall dialog: Fixed the right click/rename function in the save/recall dialog so that printer setups can be renamed properly.
v2009.264 06/26/09 Low v2009.264 fixes a dcraw bug which was causing a thin line of misplaced pixels on the right edge of Panasonic GH1 raw photos shot in 4:3 aspect ratio.

  • JPEG saving/conversion: When saving or batch converting to JPEG images, Qimage will now use a higher quality compression when JPEG quality is set to 98, 99, or 100%.

v2009.254 05/20/09 Low v2009.254 includes the following:
  • Utilities: Improved "Explore Current Folder" and "Explore Qimage Application Data" under the "Utilities" menu so that the explorer window opens faster.
  • Dark frame filter: Fixed some error messages that could occur when using the dark frame filter via the batch filter or global filter.
  • No installed Windows printers: Fixed an error message that was occurring during Qimage shutdown when Qimage is being used on a system that has no Windows printers installed.
v2009.253 05/18/09 Low v2009.253 includes the following:
  • Menu Cheater: Added an "Auto close" option on the menu cheater window.
  • Application Data: Added a "Copy/Migrate Application Data" option on the "Utilities" menu that can be used to copy/backup Qimage application data or migrate the application data to a new (user specified) location.
v2009.252 05/11/09 Low v2009.252 displays an error dialog and aborts printing when an image in the print queue cannot be loaded while printing, ensuring that "Image Read Error" never appears on actual prints.
v2009.251 05/09/09 High v2009.251 fixes the following bugs/issues:
  • Install: Corrected a problem that was causing more than one Qimage icon to appear on the desktop after installation completes.
  • View file names: Eliminated a problem that was causing errors/crashing when operating in view-file-names-only view instead of thumbnails.
  • New version downloads: Fixed a bug that was preventing new versions from downloading from the Help|About window after clicking "Download".
  • Albums: Corrected a problem that was causing some raw thumbnails to not show if Qimage was showing an album when first started.
  • Albums: Fixed the Add to/Remove From album menu selections so they are not disabled if the selected thumbnail(s) were also in the queue.
  • Albums: Thumbnails in albums now sort properly when name/type sort is selected.
v2009.250 05/08/09 Low New Features:
  • File Migration: The new installer will prompt you for the install folder as always, but will also prompt for the application data folder.  You can accept the (Windows standard) defaults or create your own if you would like to store Qimage data such as printer setups, job log, thumbnails, and other data on a different drive or folder.  Existing users please note: the first time you run v2009.250, your existing Qimage settings and thumbnails will be migrated to the new application data location.  Files are copied from your previous Qimage version to the v2009.250 data folder and nothing is deleted, so you can always go back and use the old version seamlessly if needed.
  • Menu Cheater: Ever wish you didn't have to drill down into a menu to activate a feature?  Now you can click the menu cheater button on the top of the Qimage window (or press F10) and all commonly used features are just one click away!
  • Albums: Available only in the Studio Edition, albums offer a way for users to group/manage photos.  Need to create a collection of your favorite flower photos?  Just create a new album called "Favorite Flowers" and start adding photos from various folders.  When you open the album, all the photos will show up in the thumbnails at once, even when they are from different folders or even different drives!  See "Help", "Contents", "Qimage Functions", "Albums" in the Qimage help file for details.
  • Freehand: Ability to insert a page when in freehand placement mode: go to a page, right click, and select "Insert Page".  Then immediately drag thumbnail(s) to the inserted blank page.
  • Printer setups: Qimage now automatically detects when you update your print driver and warns you if a particular saved printer setup is using data from an old driver.
  • Admin/non-admin installs: Qimage automatically warns/instructs the user if the software was used under an administrator account and the current non-admin user doesn't have the proper privileges to run the software.

Fixes:

  • Email date/time: Fixed the email date/time so that emails sent from Qimage show the proper time based on time zone.
  • Under the hood: Fixed some minor user interface glitches and made usability improvements to some functions.

Qimage v2009.200 (11/13/08):

Studio Edition gets major upgrade for raw photo support

Qimage v2009.100 (08/19/08):

ddisoftware, Inc. is pleased to announce Qimage 2009.100, our professional photographic printing software for PC/Windows.  This major revision offers upgraded and refined support for raw photos in the Studio Edition plus some incremental fixes and optimizations for the Lite and Professional Editions.  The Studio Edition not only supports raw photos from over 300 cameras, but also has a significantly upgraded user interface for dealing with raw photos.  Utilizing smart exposure and adaptive noise reduction techniques, Qimage Studio Edition can now display, print, or convert most of your raw photos with no manual adjustments whatsoever!  No more spending hours dragging manual sliders trying to get each raw photo in a batch ready to print.  In rare cases where adjustments are necessary, one click is all that is needed in the new "Refine Raw Exposure" dialog to adjust exposure, correct WB, or add fill light using the new-for-2009 high quality fill light function.  Automated fast loading techniques allow you to view most raw photos in under 4 seconds full screen, opening up the ability to browse, rate, view, and print raw photos like you would any other photo format such as JPEG and eliminating the extra step of pre-developing your raw photos.  Existing Qimage users will appreciate the ability to just drag raw photos to the page and print with professional photo quality that is synonymous with the name Qimage!  Also be sure to check out our camera ICC profiles that further enhance the already excellent color fidelity that can be achieved with Qimage/raw.

  • Levels filter: Updated the "M" slider on the levels tab so that gamma can be set to two decimal places.

  • Fill light: Removed the "Gamma" control in the batch filter and replaced it with "Fill light".  The new fill light does an excellent job adding light to backlit subjects: simulates fill flash.  The gamma control is already duplicated on the levels tab so if you'd like to use the old gamma control, just move the "M" slider on the levels tab.
  • Thumbnail display: Fixed a bug that was causing incomplete redrawing of the thumbnail grid under some conditions after displaying another window/popup over the thumbnails.
