A special thanks to Gene Gough for providing target images and working with us to profile this camera.

If we had to pick a plugin that results in the biggest improvement, this has got to be the one! We found that the D770 suffered from undersaturated blue tones that were pushed toward green, dull yellows, and greens that were a bit unnatural. As you can see from the samples above, the D770 color profile plugin for Qimage corrects all of these problems. Most notable in these samples are more natural greens, a beautiful sky blue, and yellows that really stand out. All of the samples show the drastic improvement to blue sky, however, the bottom photo contains a wealth of information by itself. In the bottom photo, notice how the plugin properly renders the pylons on the playground gazebo roof as a cyan/blue tone, separating them from the other vertical posts on the playground. In addition, yellow colors are greatly enhanced and notice the more natural green color of the foiliage. Qimage has even increased the separation between the green trees and the brown/orange leaves on the tree in the background near the top right.

Update regarding this plugin (09/12): The plugin featured here was developed using the DSC-D770 under sunny conditions. Although the plugin is extremely accurate under most outdoor conditions (sunny, cloudy, etc), we have gotten conflicting reports regarding the performance of this plugin with flash shots. We still believe that the plugin improves color accuracy, even for flash shots, however depending on the type of flash used, performance of this plugin may vary for flash shots since the camera may produce a slighly different color curve depending on the type of flash used.

A note regarding the Sony D700: Although the above plugin was designed for the Sony DSC-D770, we have reviewed the plugin for the Sony D700 as well and have found it to be a good match for the D700 as well as the D770.
