Scanner buying guide
Which scanner should I buy for Print Prism?
This page is for people who do not already own a supported scanner.
Before buying anything, check the full supported scanner list here.
You may already have a compatible scanner or all-in-one printer.
The simple recommendation: if you do not mind having another printer around,
go with one of the all-in-one models below. They are only modestly more expensive than a standalone scanner,
produce better scans than standalone units, and they also give you a useful office/document printer.
Highly recommended
All-in-one printer + scanner
Best overall choice for most people.
- Usually only about $80 more than a standalone scanner
- Gives you an extra printer for office and document work
- Both models below scan extremely well for Print Prism
- Best value if you do not already have a supported scanner
A very practical choice if you want a scanner that also doubles as a reliable everyday office printer.
Another excellent low-cost all-in-one option that performs very well with Print Prism.
These compact all-in-one units offer better scans than the standalone scanners and can also handle everyday office printing, taking some load off your photo printer.
Recommended
Standalone scanner only
For people who are sure they do not want another printer.
- Lower entry price, usually around the $100 range
- Good choice if you want the smallest possible hardware footprint
- More limited options and more platform caveats than the all-in-one models
Canon LiDE 400
About $100
Good standalone choice, but Windows 11 only. Does not work on Windows 10.
Another viable standalone option, but it is Windows only, does not work on Mac,
and can be a bit flaky with USB connections.
If you are on the fence, the all-in-one options are the better buy for most people.
