What about Qimage on the Mac?
A question of resources
We have heard from a lot of Mac users who are wondering if we are going to support Qimage on the Mac. Although we would love to, we are a small company that simply does not have the resources to support software for two platforms. In addition, our compiler is not supported on the Mac which makes development much more difficult, requiring us to convert the code to another language.
But, you CAN run Qimage on a Mac
We have heard from a number of Mac users who are running Qimage using Virtual PC software. Qimage will run under Virtual PC, however, older versions of VPC had problems with Windows printing compatibility and as a result, Qimage may not print on older versions of VPC. The problem appears to be fixed in later versions. If you are using Virtual PC and have any information regarding Qimage printing on the Mac, please let us know at mchaney@ddisoftware.com.
UPDATE (05/01/2002)
We have gotten emails from users who are running Virtual PC v5.02
(Windows 2000) on Mac OS X. All functions of Qimage appear to
be working under this version of VPC, including printing. Reports
indicate that emulation speed is very good and that prints from
VPC 5.02 (Windows 2000) are identical to prints generated from a
PC. Running VPC in full screen mode using a generous memory
partition is recommended.
About Virtual PC
Virtual PC is a product of Connectix corporation and can be found at http://www.connectix.com. The cost (as of May 1, 2002) is $199 for the Windows 2000 version. Please see the Connectix site for more details and system requirements. The cost of this software seems reasonable considering that it is an investment that will allow many Mac users to run not only Qimage, but a host of other applications that are PC/Windows based.
