Scheduled printer maintenance

Keep your printer ready.
Even between print days.

An inkjet printer benefits from regular use, even when you only print occasionally. Qimage can schedule unattended purge sheets and nozzle checks to keep ink moving and help prevent clogs between photo sessions.

Keep ink moving

Scheduled purge sheets

A purge sheet is a printed pattern that exercises the ink colors you select. Save a setup for your printer and paper, then let Qimage print it on your chosen schedule.

Uses your Windows printer driver. You can save different setups and schedule maintenance for more than one printer.

Check nozzle health

Scheduled nozzle checks

On supported Canon and Epson printers, Qimage can print the printer’s nozzle-check pattern automatically. It exercises the nozzles and gives you a pattern to inspect for gaps before an important print.

Schedule nozzle checks, purge sheets or both. Nozzle-check availability depends on the printer model.

Set up a routine that suits your printing.

  1. Save a maintenance setup.

Open Qimage’s Unclog tool, choose your printer and paper, and save a purge-sheet or supported nozzle-check setup.

  2. Choose when it runs.

Add your saved setup to the scheduler and choose the timing. Schedule one printer or several, with intervals suited to how you use them.

  3. Print on schedule.

Turn on the scheduler and leave Qimage running. You can minimize it to the system tray so scheduled jobs continue in the background.

For printing at the scheduled time, leave your Windows PC awake and the printer ready with paper loaded. The scheduler also has an option to start automatically with Windows.

A few practical questions.

How often should I schedule maintenance?

Choose an interval that fits your printer’s guidance, your environment and how often you already print. Qimage lets you adjust the schedule as your printing routine changes.

Will this clear an existing clog?

Regular printing helps with prevention, and a nozzle check helps you spot a problem. An existing clog may still need your printer’s cleaning procedure.

Can I close Qimage after setting the schedule?

Closing Qimage pauses the scheduler. Use File → Minimize to System Tray to keep scheduled printing running in the background.

Ready for the next photograph.

Scheduled maintenance is part of Qimage’s complete photo-printing workflow, alongside automatic layouts, adaptive sharpening and saved jobs.
