Color Match Profile Prism P-400 Profile

Due to lack of other options or failure of their favorite printer profiling software to generate an accurate profile, many P-400 owners are resorting to using either sRGB or Color Match color spaces when printing to their P-400 printers. While Color Match seems closer to the proper contrast and tonal range, neither of these generic working spaces are appropriate for the P-400 printer as they do not cover the proper color gamut. The above examples are P-400 prints that were scanned with a calibrated scanner to sRGB color space for web display. We chose to compare color of our Profile Prism P-400 profile with Color Match since sRGB often reproduces images that are washed out or too bright on the P-400.

IMPORTANT: Although we supply a free profile generated by Profile Prism on this page for demonstration purposes, ICC profiles generated by profiling software packages carry the same copyright as the profiling software itself and are generally not shareable and should not be sold or shared even free of charge without written permission from the profiling software manufacturer/company. If you use profiling software, be sure to check the licensing agreement to determine if profiles generated by that software are shareable, but generally sharing of profiles is prohibited except by the company owning the copyright to the profiling software itself. In addition, due to variations in printers (even the same model) and paper/ink/ribbons, a single profile will never be as accurate as a profile developed for your specific printer, so custom profiling software is generally more accurate than standalone profiles.

The P-400 ICC profile on this page was developed using Profile Prism v4.06. The P-400 printer, like many dye sub printers, is difficult to profile using typical printer profiling software. We have found that print head clearance affects printed color and can even cause uneven printing characteristics from left to right on the printed page which can confuse the average printer profiling software. While Profile Prism has the capability to eliminate/minimize variations in printed output, head clearance and other factors such as ribbon/paper quality and age can affect how your P-400 reproduces color. We believe the profile supplied here will work well for the average P-400 printer and is certainly better than using sRGB or some other generic working space. Note, however, that no two printers, ribbons, or lots of paper are alike and to get the most accurate color for any printer, we recommend checking out our Profile Prism software for the purpose of developing your own custom profile that is accurate for your specific printer and supplies. The profile provided here is available just so you can get an idea of what custom printer profiling can do for you. If you like what you see, a custom profile for your specific printer can be even more accurate as it addresses the unique characteristics of your printer.
